Just too bad there’s no Accord Type R, with the full 300+ hp from the CTR, and too bad no Camry XRS with the supercharged V6 from the Evora. Street cred in a family car yo
The Accord should’ve been a hatchback with a rear wiper. A Camry wagon would’ve been nice, too. Actually, the reason Honda didn’t make it a hatchback with a rear wiper is because they were afraid Toyota would make a wagon with TWO rear wipers and thereby out-awesoming them and then they’d cower in fear or something.
Remeber that Honda killed the Accord coupe because of the Mustang. Honda directs anyone looking for an Accord coupe to their local Ford dealer.

That Camry is hideous. Granted, the Accord is no beauty queen either, but at least I wouldn’t be embarrassed to be seen in it like I would the Camry.

The sad thing is, the last Camry was quite good looking, even though (or maybe because) it looks exactly like a 2nd gen TSX.

Yeah. The last Camry actually looked nice...
...except it was derivative of an old Accord. (Maybe I’m just biased.)

To be fair, I didn’t like the non-SE version of the last one, either. But at least it wasn’t an outright eyesore like the new one. They’re somehow even worse in person.

It’s like an 8 year old broke into Toyota ‘s design offices, opened their CAD app, and replaced all the decent car designs with crazy cars from Transformers or some whacky Anime show.
Some management schmuck was walking by the next morning, saw the crazy CAD design and put it into production. Voila- 2018 Camry!

The skidpad tells the tale. The Camry XSE V-6 pulls only one- tenth of a g harder than the XLE four-cylinder and three- tenths of a g weaker than the Accord 2.0T Touring on average.
Motor Trend keeps using that word. I do not think it means what Motor Trend thinks it means.
(They mean hundredths. Three tenths would be colossal - it’d put the Accord in trackday special territory. Three hundredths, eh.)
That said, I’m a bit surprised that the Camry V6 isn’t stronger than it is in straight-line acceleration, but that’s what a transmission with fewer ratios, and apparently poorer optimization, combined with far less area under the curve due to not subscribing to the “let’s just feed in all the boost at 1500 RPM” school of modern downsized turbo powertrains, will do for you...
The Camry, for all its bravura, is less capable when pressed. The steering is lighter but less fluid, with an aggressive ratio immediately off-center that makes the car feel darty and nervous. This and the high-end surge from the engine make it feel as though you’re going faster in the Camry when you’re actually not.
What’s interesting here is, I almost wonder if this is some of the whole “driving rhythm” stuff that Toyota’s been going on about lately - maybe they chose to make it feel faster, even though it’s actually slower, similar to Mazda’s decisions on the Miata?

So I saw one of those new Camry XSEs on the road this morning, quad exhaust tips shining brilliantly, and all I could think is; “wow, someone has really already bought one of those”.
Don’t get me wrong, I try to be very live and let live about the decisions of others, but for a Camry, I don’t get it. Maybe someone could explain it to me, but the mental picture I have in my head of walking into a dealer and going “yes I’ll have the Camry with the quad exhaust” just blows my mind.
